In the natural evolutions of cities, railroads tend to withdraw from the downtowns the railroads helped build.  It’s not an act of ingratitude that the railroad is asked to move south - just that our city has outgrown the need for railyards downtown and has better uses for the land.  Vision Fairbanks recognizes the railroad’s withdrawal as a probably inevitable, gradual long-term process.  But we need to begin moving in that direction today, for the good of the ice park and our winter economy.
