2010 Annual Reception
The Annual General Meeting Reception held in the lower level of the sumptuous, historic Courthouse Square last week was a truly delightful event. Right around seventy downtowners celebrated another fine year in our charming little river city. Showcasing a wide variety of the Downtown Association’s 2010 promotional pieces that were posted on the walls, guests were encouraged to review the past year. With roses everywhere and Chinese lanterns all in a row, the atmosphere in the previously vacant space became a captivating mix of rough-hewn elegance.

Bobby’s Downtown, River City Café, Gambardella’s Pasta Bella, The Fudge Pot, The Westmark Hotel and l’asseite de Pomegranate served delicious entrées, appetizers and desserts. Antipasto, tea sandwiches, lasagna, imported cheese, chocolate cake and an assortment of fudge were all on the menu. Party-goers also enjoyed delicious wines provided by Lavelle’s Bistro.

The first-rate musical group Jass Pharm had just the right sound for a contemporary downtown party. They played a splendid variety of jazzy tunes complete with a suave saxophone and some cool scat. To top the evening off, four performers from Dance Theatre Fairbanks, costumed in glittery, colorful apparel, performed a dazzling Bollywood dance routine.

2010 Annual Member Business Meeting
34 individuals, representing approximately 30% of the Downtown Association’s membership, participated in the pre-reception Annual Member Business meeting. The meeting had two main components, a colorful year in review power point presentation by Executive Director David van den Berg entitled “Yesterday and Today”, and the election of board members, which resulted in the following:
- Bart LeBon of Mt. Mckinley Bank and Gary Conatser of Northrim Bank were re-elected to 3-year terms, and
- Mike Webb of Alaskan Gold Rush Fine Jewelers and Sheri Olesen of Chartreuse were elected to 3-year terms.
Take a moment to review the minutes of the 2010 Annual Member Business meeting. And, feel free to peruse an abridged variation of the power point presentation “Yesterday and Today”.

Another important element of the Annual General Meeting & Reception is to give out awards to exceptional individuals and businesses who have contributed a great deal to our downtown. This year, 2010, the following five award recipients were recognized:
