ONE DELICIOUS REWARD

I am not a particularly bad cook. I am not a particularly good cook either….but what the heck I took the plunge and enrolled in a cooking class in the snazzy new Chez World cooking school in the Northward building. Outfitted with shiny new stainless steel appliances, close circuit television, and appropriately angled mirrors, the facility is both beautiful and functional.  I must say the whole Chez World cooking experience was superb.

One of the keen things about the class was that all students were expected to participate. You don’t just observe the chef, you become the chef. I didn’t feel like I was just watching a cable TV cooking show, I felt like I was in one.  A bit intimidating at first but actually the “learning by doing” cooking style is a really effective way to do just that, learn. I got comfortable using filo, a very thin pastry we wrapped around asparagus. I found out that you can mix amazing things like cayenne, sugar and cinnamon together, sprinkle it over nuts and bake them to make a spicy treat to eat as a snack or to embellish other foods. Yum.

Vivian, our charming Chef, was knowledgeable and entertaining and just the right amount of coach and cheerleader. Boy was it Fun! And informative! And delicious!  And yes, we got to eat the savory fruits of our collective labor, and with a menu that included; Macadamia nut crusted Halibut, Asparagus en croute and Baked Alaska; that was one delicious reward.

Chez World Cooking School offers cooking classes (and more) year around. Please email Chezworldfairbanks@gmail.com or phone 347-2102 for more information.
