Thank you downtown for your excellent input regarding the Winter Solstice Celebration. A lot of great ideas were generated from out first meeting and we are ready to move forward with our planning. Please feel free to read the notes from the first planning meeting which took place on Wednesday, August 11th, and consider coming to our second planning meeting which will be on Thursday, September 9th at 6:00pm in the Downtown Association’s conference room at 410 Cushman Street.
The Winter Solstice Meeting calendar is as follows:
#1 Meeting, August 11th: Review of past events and initial planning for 2010 Winter Solstice.
#2 Meeting, September 9th: Event calendar, Activity descriptions and deadlines for downtown business participation.
#3 Meeting, October 5th : Finalization of promotional pieces- Including: cooperative ad, table toppers, bag stuffers and event posters. How your business can help promote the event. How to get community support, volunteers and traffic downtown in December. A Fairbanks Daily News-Miner representative will attend this meeting.
#4 Meeting, November 16th: Final preparations for the event. Distribution of event guides, window decorating contest boxes, posters, bag stuffers. Finalize participation in the window decorating contest and other Winter Solstice activities.
In our next planning meeting we will develop the activities for this year’s event and decide on deadlines for those activities. We ask you to bring or submit any event your business is having downtown in December so we can start creating our Downtown Winter Solstice Event calendar. The calendar includes First Friday, Sales, Special Events, Musical Performances and anything else planned for the Grand Finale Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 18th , 2010. Let’s focus on a clear message and work together to make a festive, happening Winter Solstice. Hope to see you at the next planning session!
If you cannot attend a planning meeting, please send any ideas you have for the upcoming Winter Solstice Celebration to knash@downtownfairbanks.com , and I will include your input at the planning meeting and in our planning notes.
